Teller County

Teller County is the 22nd most populous of the 64 counties of the State of Colorado of the United States. The county population was 20,555 at U.S. Census 2000. The county seat is Cripple Creek. The Colorado Springs Metropolitan Statistical Area comprises El Paso County and Teller County.

Most of Teller County's major roads were once Ute Indian Trails. Highway 24 began as one of the major Ute Indian trails, becoming a wagon road during the 1860's gold rush, then a rail bed for the Colorado Midland Railroad in 1887.

Teller County was named after United States Senator Henry M. Teller. Teller County was calved off of the western slope of Pikes Peak, then entirely within El Paso County, in 1899.
